Actor Tyrese Gibson is asking fans to pray for his mother, Priscilla Murray, who has been hospitalized with COVID-19 and pneumonia.
Over the weekend, Gibson wrote on Instagram that his mother is in the ICU. He said he was “in the middle of filming” when he received “the worst” news he’s “ever gotten.”
“My mother is in a coma, in ICU, with pneumonia and she caught COVID. They got her so sedated she can’t breathe or even eat on her own,” he said. “I need prayers, the most sincere prayers from you prayer warriors.”
Gibson, who appeared in the “Fast and Furious” movies, said he’s a born-again Christian, but added that he has had a strained relationship with his mother at times, saying they’ve had “their share of issues.” He said he’s been at the hospital with her.
He said he was thankful for the “outpouring of prayers” and “the mighty power of Jesus to keep” his mother.
“Thank you Jesus for every 24 hours. Literally thank you Jesus for every BREATH! Life belongs to you and I’m so grateful that you have blessed my mother to see another day,” he said. “Amen, amen, amen!
“As I sit here, I’m thanking God for every breath. I am so grateful.”
In one video clip, he is talking with a nurse about his mother and the nurse says his mother’s vitals are looking good. Gibson replies, “God is good.” The nurse responds, “God is great!”
“If I can ask you for prayer, I can also give you some good news about these blessings in progress,” he said. “If you don’t know you will know after you see this (that) Jesus is real!”
In addition to being a film star, Gibson is also a singer. His single, “How You Gonna Act Like That” from the album I Wanna Go There, reached number seven on the Billboard Hot 100.
