The U.S. military carried out airstrikes on ISIS camps in Libya last night, according to a report from

U.S. surveillance operations had been monitoring a remote desert area for weeks, watching what appeared to be adult-age males take refuge in the secluded areas, inland from the coast.

Two ISIS training camps were reportedly targeted in the airstrikes. Each were approximately 28 miles southwest of the city of Sirte, on the Mediterranean Sea.

The U.S. military, employing B-2 bombers, was reportedly trying to target four camps, but only succeeded in hitting two.

Fox News reports that an estimated 85 terrorists were killed in the bombings.

These airstrikes were approved by President Obama and will be one of the last orders he will give while in office, as President-elect Donald Trump will be inaugurated on Friday, Jan. 20.

Airstrikes are sometimes controversial, as they can also inadvertently target civilians. The U.S. has conducted airstrikes in Libya, Iraq, Syria, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Yemen and Somalia.

As Obama prepares to leave office, ISIS continues to pose a threat, which the new president Trump will have to deal with.
