The Final Coat
by Berni Dymet

I Sam. 16:7 "...for the LORD does not see as mortals see; they look on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart."

My wife and I live in an old 19th Century terrace house that we've been renovating to bring it into the 21st century.  Replacing the unstable floor and repairing the crumbling plaster.

But throughout the long and messy renovations taking place on the inside, the gorgeous old front façade - which is all you can see from the street - remained dirty and dilapidated.  Until just the other day, when the painters put the final coat on the front, and the rest of the world could finally see that what's there now, is a beautiful, old house, instead of the dilapidated old ruin that it once was.

For the rest of the world - that final coat made all the difference.  But for us, it's what happened on the inside that really mattered.

We live in a world that focuses on outward appearances.  That's what matters.  But not to God - what HE cares about are the renovation on the inside.  Making a difference where it counts.  He loves us deep on the inside where we live.
