OUT OF A RUT
Read: Psalm 42
Key Verse: “Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior and my God.” - Psalm 42:11
This psalm was written by a worship leader who going through a valley in his faith. He begins to talk to himself (yes, this is Biblical-no problem with doing it!). In fact, we often need to preach to ourselves to begin heading in the right direction. The questions imply that there is no reason to have a pity party or hold on to despair. The first choice is to reject being passive and stop pretending like there are no options.
A positive response emerges. The author decides to begin to praise the Lord. You can worship God at any time and in any place. No one can ever take that away from you. Praise God from your will and eventually your feelings will catch up and arise. Trust God, believe His Word, walk by faith now even though you don’t know what tomorrow will bring. Praising God is the most important step out of a rut. You do have a Savior who loves you and is worthy of honor. God will direct His love toward you and will lift you up from the depths with His provision.
