Read: Psalm 141

Key Verse: “May my prayer set before You like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice.” - Psalm 141:2

In the Bible, prayer is often represented by incense. Rising up to heaven, your prayers are powerful and effective. Like sweet smelling incense, your sincere prayers are pleasing to God. The lifting up of hands represents both wholehearted praise and a position of surrender to God. A true prayer includes an aspect of yielding yourself to God. How do you involve your mind, spirit, heart, and body in your prayers to God?

God wants us to go deeper in prayer as we seek Him with our entire being. Short prayers are significant. Praying is not about a word count. David’s prayers are marked by an inward posture before God of honesty, reverence, pleading, and confidence in God. What aspects of prayer would you like to add to your communication with God? Like incense that continually burns, your prayers help you stay connected with God. Be intentional to pray more during the most difficult part of your day when you would be tempted not to rely on God.
