Never Too Old To Be Coached

Proverbs 3:11-12

Most NFL quarterbacks at 39 have already made the journey from the playing field to the announcer’s mike. Instead, on Sunday Night Football, Tom Brady was definitely on the field as Cris Collinsworth and Al Michael, the SNF sportscasters, discussed how during the offseason Brady worked on his footwork in the pocket. Aaron Rodgers was better at buying time when he dropped back to pass so his receivers could get open. During the off season, Brady’s personal coach analyzed the films with him and gave the instruction and correction he needed. Many already consider him the greatest pro quarterback ever, but he’s still playing the game and listening to his coach.

Wise people keep paying attention to correction, and when it comes to my life, I need to be careful not to reject the reproof and instruction from the ultimate life coach—God.

“The LORD’s discipline, my son--don’t reject it! Don’t get disgusted when the LORD reprimands you. For whom the LORD loves He rebukes like a father corrects the son in whom he delights.” - Proverbs 3:11-15

LORD, as I look back over my life, I should have been more open to constructive criticism, especially when the correction came from folks connected with You. Help me to get the love—reproof connection You’re emphasizing today in these verses. Protect me from becoming the fool who despises Your positive instruction and negative reproof.
