Your name is in the book of life. And it will never be blotted out.
The one who is victorious will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out the name of that person from the book of life, but will acknowledge that name before my Father and his angels (Revelation 3:5).
Will God ever blot your name out of the book of life?
Many are fearful that he might based on their faulty understanding of Revelation 3:5.
Listen to what it says.
“The one who is victorious will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out the name of that person from the book of life, but will acknowledge that name before my Father and his angels.”
Did you catch that word never? The verse is clear. God will never blot someone out of the book of life. Never.
This is a statement of assurance, not one that puts fear in the heart. Yet, many people read this and tremble at the thought that Jesus might blot their name from the book of life.
They get hung up in determining if they are victorious or not. Or, if they have been clothed in white garments or not. Instead of looking to Jesus and his finished work for answers, they look at themselves. And the doubts and fears come racing in.
What does it mean to be victorious? John answered this question in his first letter.
For everyone who is born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith
(1 John 5:4).
Have you been born again?
If so, you are victorious. You have been clothed in the righteousness of Jesus Christ. Your name is in the book of life. And it will never be blotted out.
Jesus says to you today that he is going to acknowledge your name before his Father and before his angels. Rejoice! You are one of his. You are victorious through faith in Jesus.
