God Multiplies From Our Choices
These two forces are constantly fighting each other, and your choices are never free from this conflict (Galatians 5:17).
Sam and Sarah learned that God multiplies even trivial events and choices when we direct them toward Him.
For several years Sarah had wanted a beautiful new bedroom set. One day she saw the bed of her dreams -- a copy of a colonial antique. Knowing how much she admired the furniture, Sam suggested that she order it.
Excitedly, she took the phone number and the catalog of the furniture company with her to church where she worked as a secretary. Before calling the furniture company, Sarah showed pictures of her selection to their pastor.
"My wife doesn't have such expensive taste," he mumbled. "But there's nothing wrong with buying it, if you have prayed about it."
His response changed Sarah's thinking. "Knowing I hadn't even considered praying about it," she says, "I immediately knew I should not make the extravagant purchase. For my 'sacrifice' to serve a good purpose, I decided to give the money we would have spent on the furniture to a friend, Dennis, who is on staff with Campus Crusade for Christ."
Sam and Sarah had not talked with Dennis in months, but the decision to send him the money led Sam to call him. During their conversation, Dennis urged Sam and Sarah to attend a nearby Family Life Conference where he would be speaking.
At the conference, Sam mentioned to Dennis his plan to take early retirement in ten years and go into full-time Christian work. Dennis enthusiastically challenged Sam to consider joining the Campus Crusade for Christ FamilyLife Ministry. At that time, Sam had no intention of joining Campus Crusade for Christ, then or ever -- not then because he had two daughters to put through college, and not ever because the idea of raising his own financial support was more than he could swallow.
The Lord took Sam and Sarah through a series of events which prepared their hearts and led Sam to resign his responsible and lucrative position with a major corporation to join our staff. God provided miraculously with unexpected funds for their daughters' college expenses, an improved early retirement benefit, and a quick sale of their home.
God gave Sam and Sarah the confidence to walk away from financial security. He also provided them with a loyal support team in time to report to the FamilyLife Ministry two years later.
"We 'sowed' a little furniture money and are continuing to reap great riches from God," Sarah says. "We feel happier, more challenged and fulfilled. God consistently proves Himself faithful and sufficient. Furthermore, He has given us greater opportunities to influence those in our church and neighborhood."
Yours for fulfilling the Great Commission each year until our Lord returns,
