"Good Morning, General Lee!"
Who do you say I am? (Luke 9:20).
Of all the exciting privileges that God has given me through the years, none compares with the privilege of introducing others to Christ. It is humbling to know that God has allowed me the incredible joy of introducing many thousands to Him through individual conversations and meetings, large and small.
When I consider the great benefits which come to those who receive Christ, I sometimes wonder how anyone could ever say no to Him. Perhaps the major reason is expressed in this humorous little story, which also illustrates an important truth:
A father took his three-year-old son on a stroll through a park every day. In the park was a statue of General Robert E. Lee riding his beautiful horse, Traveler. The father had a great affection for General Lee and wanted his young son to have that same admiration and respect for the general. So every day they would stop in front of the statue of General Lee sitting on his horse, Traveler, and the father would say to his son, "Say 'good morning' to General Lee."
The little lad would wave his chubby little hand and say, "Good morning, General Lee."
This was a daily ritual for several months, until one day, after greeting General Lee, the young boy asked his father, "Daddy, who is that man riding General Lee?"
I am convinced that the real reason most people do not receive Christ is that they do not understand who He is and all the great benefits, including joy, that come to those who receive Him.
When Prince Charles of England was born into the royal family, everyone in the country celebrated. The heir apparent was a wonderful gift to the head of that family.
When we become God's children, His heirs, we are His wonderful gifts in whom He delights, and there is great joy and celebration in His heavenly household.
I encourage you today to see yourself as God sees you, liberated and beloved in His sight. Bless Him, and "forget not all His benefits" (Psalm 103:2, NIV).
Yours for fulfilling the Great Commission each year until our Lord returns,
