Yuval Feldman contends that major ethical scandals seem obvious, but the ones that can also do great harm are the smaller ones that chip away at trust and alter organizational behavior.
In a Harvard Business Review article, Feldman contends that research reveals that stealing office supplies, fudging expense reports, and engaging in conflicts of interest can become blind spots. This leads to people believing that their behavior is acceptable.
As situations arise, many drift into unethical behavior when subtle conflicts of interest arise, when the victim is not identified, or when decisions are made by groups rather than individually.
Proverbs 16:12 says, “Kings detest wrongdoing, for a throne is established through righteousness.”
An established ethical business is one that addresses the small ethical lapses as well as the big ones.
