Draw Close

Today's Scripture

"O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water. (Psalm 63:1 NLT)

Thoughts for Today

We definitely live in a parched and weary world today. How do we respond to that? Is our focus on the problems . . . or on Jesus?

If we truly want to walk more closely with our Lord, we must earnestly seek him. David wrote today's scripture. Can you identify with the thirst, the longing, for God that he describes?

David made many mistakes in his life, yet God said David was a man after his own heart: "But God removed Saul and replaced him with David, a man about whom God said, ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart. He will do everything I want him to do’" (Acts 13:22 NLT)

God knew that David's first devotion was to him. He knew David's heart longed for his God and found true comfort and joy only in him.

Consider this …

To walk with God and develop a deeper relationship with him, we must want that with all our heart. Enough to set aside our own desires and want God's will above all else. Enough to spend quality time with him and diligently seek truth in his Word. Enough to want him to be not only part of our life . . . but for him to be our life.

That doesn't mean we don't care about relationships with people or life's activities. But it does mean we begin to see everyone and everything through God's eyes. That we better understand our purpose in life. That we truly desire to accomplish all he has equipped us and called us to do.

Spend some time today considering where you are in your walk with him.

Prayer

Father, I do love you, but too often I get distracted. I don't spend the time with you I should. I become overwhelmed with circumstances. I know that only as I draw closer to you will my faith in you grow. And I understand that without faith, I cannot please you. Help me be more like Enoch. Help me to walk with you . . . and please you. In Jesus' name . . .
