Our Shelter

1 Peter 5:10 (NIV®)

And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.

There is a myth in Christianity that goes like this: If you ever truly yielded your life to God, all your challenges and pain and difficulties would go away. And if you have challenges or pain or difficulties, it’s because you haven’t fully yielded or there is some dark corner you haven’t swept clean. That is not a biblical idea. Jesus told a parable about two people who built two houses—one on sand and one on stone. When the same storm battered both houses, the house on stone stood while the house on sand collapsed. Being a Christ-follower does not remove us from the arena of human suffering, but we have a different set of resources. We have an Almighty God who gives us strength and shelter in times of trouble and then restores us, all for His glory.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, how good You are to me! How faithful You are in times of trouble! Thank You for Your hedge of protection that keeps me from trouble—even trouble I never know about. Thank You for holding me close when the troubles of life are threatening to overwhelm me. Help me to be always grateful for Your watch care over me. With a grateful heart, amen.
