The Bible: Trump’s Biggest Vulnerability

The Bible: Trump’s Biggest Vulnerability

Donald Trump’s faith has been one of the top subjects of skepticism among his critics throughout his presidential campaign. In fact, Michael Daly from The Daily Beast says that the Bible is Trump’s biggest vulnerability.

Trump’s Christian faith--or lack of it--was exposed in an interview with Bloomberg Television when he was asked to share his favorite Bible verse.

“The Bible means a lot to me, but I don’t want to get into specifics,” he answered. “I wouldn’t want to get into it because to me that’s very personal. You know, when I talk about the Bible, it’s very personal, so I don’t want to get into verses,” he added, in a now well-known response.

When further asked if he prefers the Old or New Testament, Trump responded, “Probably equal. The whole Bible is just incredible.”

Many critics have taken Trump’s response to mean that he is hardly familiar with the Bible at all.

Daly agrees, stating that it is a hypocritical claim for Trump to say he doesn’t want to share his faith because it’s too personal when he has gladly shared personal details about his family.

Many times Trump has commented on the attractiveness of his daughter, Ivanka.

“You know who’s one of the great beauties of the world, according to everybody? And I helped create her,” he said in one interview. “My daughter Ivanka. She’s 6 feet tall, she’s got the best body.”

“She does have a very nice figure,” he said in another interview. “I’ve said if Ivanka weren’t my daughter, perhaps I’d be dating her.”

Daly goes on to call out Trump’s claims that he attends Marble Collegiate Church in New York. The church has released a statement, saying Trump’s family does have connections there, but Trump is not an active member.

Trump also has some connections to Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, which is a short walk from Trump Tower.

Daly reports that Fifth Avenue Presbyterian’s deacons include Brenda Berkman, the first openly gay woman to become a professional firefighter and the initiator of a lawsuit which allowed women to become New York City firefighters.

Daly believes that Trump’s recent slip in the polls is due to the fact that Christian voters are realizing that Trump’s love for the Bible is part of a ploy to gain a certain demographic of voters and not based in any real conviction.
