Actress Danica McKellar, best known for her role as Winnie Cooper in “The Wonder Years”, recalled how “Full House” actress Candace Cameron Bure helped her find Jesus Christ and, ultimately, become a Christian four years ago.

In a recent interview with The Christian Post, McKellar shared that she converted to Christianity in 2022 after Bure invited her to church.

"My friend Candace Cameron Bure, who also has movies on Great American Family Channel, is a very outspoken Christian, has been for many years," McKellar told the outlet. "She brought me to church four years ago, and I remember it was the 'Passion Play,' and afterward ... the Holy Spirit just chose that moment to make everything make sense to me."

She mentioned suddenly being "flooded with understanding.”

McKellar said that when she told Bure about that special, eye-opening moment, she compared it to a particular scene in a very popular film genre.

"I remember telling her, 'Candace, this is like one of our rom-coms, you know, like where the love of your life is in front of you. You just didn't realize it. It's like, it's you. It's always been you,'" she said. "Like, it's been Jesus this whole time, and I just didn't recognize it."

In retrospect, McKellar recognized God’s providence and hand at work in her life, even though she did not at first.

“[I would feel like I was] being helped, or things would just line up in a certain way, or things not going how I wanted them to, but realizing later, 'Oh wait, that was definitely part of a divine plan that was watching out for my best interest,' and I didn't realize it at the time," she said.

Earlier this year, McKellar celebrated four years as a Christian and shared the top 4 lessons she learned in her walk of faith in a video she posted on social media.

“Forgiveness is powerful, maybe even more so for the person doing the forgiving," she said. "The Bible is full of really interesting and often scandalous stories. Trusting God can bring calm even when circumstances don’t warrant it. I used to have an empty feeling I couldn’t describe. Turns out God was the missing piece,” she stated in her video.

During her interview with The Christian Post, McKeller shared how the Great American family has produced more faith-based content, as seen in her upcoming holiday films "The Christmas Yes List" and "The Greatest Christmas Gift”

"If you watch all the movies, you'll see a pattern of leaning more and more into faith, which has been really exciting,” the actress said.

Overall, McKellar hopes that her Christmas films and books will inspire others to develop a relationship with God.

"It’s tapping into joy," she said. "It just floods your heart with joy ... that's what we're here for: to connect in that way, and to give back."
