Hamas Militants Dig Tunnels as World is Distracted by ISIS

Amanda Casanova

The Hamas tunnel network has been destroyed, but the Hamas are reporting that Hamas is still building tunnels from Gaza into Israel while global attention is focused on defeating ISIS.

According to the Hamas newspaper, Al-Risaiah, a reporter claims to have visited a new tunnel.

Hamas has used the tunnels to attack Israel by sending armed terrorist through the tunnels or taking Israeli soldiers into Gaza. In July, Hamas terrorist groups entered Israel through tunnels, killing IDF soldiers.

The tunnels were destroyed during Operation Protective Edge, but it has been reported that Hamas is working to restoring that network of travel. Last month, Hamas reported that one of its workers was killed while digging a tunnel.

In total, about 34 tunnels were destroyed during Operation Protective Edge.

A senior IDF commander of the Gaza Division engineering unit said last week that not all Hamas terror tunnels were destroyed.
