At least 31 people were killed Thursday (June 4) when two suicide bombers blew themselves up at a marketplace in Nigeria’s northeastern city of Yola. An additional 38 people were injured in the blasts.
The bombing occurred Thursday evening as merchants prepared to close their shops for the day and shoppers made their final purchases.
Fox News reports officials suspected Boko Haram was behind the attack, but the terrorist group did not immediately claim responsibility.
The attack was the first of its kind in Yola, a city which recently doubled in population due to refugees fleeing their homes in other parts of Nigeria.
Terror attacks in Nigeria have occurred daily since May 29, the day President Muhammadu Buhari announced he would be moving the Boko Haram war command center to Maiduguri, which is the birthplace of the terror group.
