Illinois Woman Spends 8 Days on Church Roof to Raise $15K

Veronica Neffinger

A Rockford, Illinois woman has spent 8 days atop a church roof in an effort to raise the needed funds for a new roof.

Jacqueline Sharp, daughter of Rev. Norris F. Flannigan, pastor of Ephesian Missionary Baptist Church, has just completed her 8-day campaign to raise $15,000.

Sharp took a ladder and climbed onto the roof of her father’s church on August 2, hoping to raise enough money to replace the church’s roof which, according to SRN News, was leaking

An insurance claim filed to replace the roof was denied, so it remained up to the church’s congregation to raise the necessary funds.

Thus Sharp took things into her own hands, pitching camp on the church’s roof where people would stop by and chat with her and leave donations.

Three churches from the surrounding areas also gave donations to Missionary Baptist, while an online campaign raised funds as well.

Sharp climbed down from her camping spot on Monday, having raised the $15,000 needed to replace the church’s roof.
