A new movie called Because of Gracia will be released this year, and it promises to be a film that will appeal to Christians.
Jason Scott Jones at Stream.org notes that the new movie is an independent film and will focus on the story of a young Christian woman who faces peer pressure to relax her biblical ideas about sexuality.
The film’s main character is played by Moriah Peters who was a contestant on American Idol. Peters’ character in the film goes through similar experiences to what she herself went through while on the popular singing show.
The Hollywood Reporter noted how Because of Gracia parallels Peters’ own experience on American Idol.
Peters tried out for the talent show when she was 16. Her singing talent, as well as her beauty, were highly praised by judges Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, Kara DioGuardi, and Avril Lavigne, but when Peters told the judges she was a Christian and was saving her first kiss for marriage, their reactions changed.
“You’re trying to be too perfect,” one judge told her.
“Go out, kiss a guy, come back,” said another judge.
Now, Peters will get to be a part of a film that discusses the issue of the cultural pressure Christians often face to go with the flow and not stand up for their convictions.
The film is set to release on September 15, 2017.
