Billy Graham Rapid Response Team Chaplains Respond to Barcelona, Spain, Following Terror Attack

Billy Graham Rapid Response Team Press Release

Crisis-trained chaplains with the Billy Graham Rapid Response Team are responding to Barcelona, Spain, following the terror attack that killed 14 and injured 100 more according to reports.

The Billy Graham Rapid Response Team immediately began to monitor and coordinate a plan for a response following news of the van attack in the busy Las Ramblas area. Crisis-trained chaplains from the United States arrived in Spain on Friday morning to assess how best to provide support and assistance to those directly affected and the church community. Additional chaplains from the U.S. and U.K. will arrive in the next 24 hours to offer for additional support.

"Once again we see terror bringing death and suffering in Europe," said Jack Munday. "In addition to the unspeakable pain felt by many families today as they mourn the loss of loved ones, people across Barcelona and beyond will be processing the fear that comes with an attack like this. We will come alongside the people of Barcelona and support local churches to offer the hope of Jesus in this time of darkness."

Franklin Graham, president and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, used his Facebook page to ask for prayer following the attack. “I’d like to ask you to pray with me for those who were injured and the family members of those killed. I don’t know if they are Catholics, Protestants, or Muslims, but these victims were just out enjoying a beautiful day before they were so brutally attacked,” said Graham. “I have been there and walked down this very same Barcelona street.”

This marks the ninth terror-related deployment to Europe in recent years. The Billy Graham Rapid Response Team previously dispatched chaplains to Paris, France(2015); Brussels, BelgiumNice, FranceMunich and Berlin, Germany (2016); andLondon and Manchester, England (2017).
