Baptist megachurch pastor Matt Chandler said in a recent sermon that the Holy Spirit’s signs and wonders were not just for the apostles in the early days of the Church, but are relevant for us today.
Chandler, who is the head pastor at the Village Church, a Southern Baptist congregaton in Flower Mound, Texas, recently gave a lengthy sermon on the topic of the Holy Spirt and His work.
CharismaNews.com reports that, in the sermon titled “The Gifts of the Holy Spirit,” Chandler stressed the importance of the Holy Spirit’s working, and stated, “The Village church believes that the miraculous sign gifts of the Holy Spirit did not cease with the death of the apostles, but are still available to the Church today.”
He acknowledged that many Christians reject this belief, but stated, "They say it's not normative and it's not available to the church today. We would disagree."
In the sermon below, Chandler goes on to explain why he believes Scripture teaches that the signs and wonders of the Holy Spirit are still applicable and active today.
“If these aren’t one-off miracles, but available to the Body, what would it be like to people who gave ourselves over to this….what would it be like to not be afraid, but to….open up our hearts?” he concluded.
