Joni Eareckson Tada Released from Hospital after 14-Days following Health Complications

After being admitted into the hospital late last month following complications from her cancer treatments, Joni Eareckson Tada has been released.

As Christian Headlines previously reported, the 69-year-old champion for people with disabilities was admitted into the hospital in late March after experiencing significant pain issues and difficulty breathing.

According to CBN News, doctors initially believed Tada was suffering from pneumonia, later doctors realized, however, that Tada’s lung condition was due to more than just pneumonia.

Tada shared on her Facebook page that her chronic quadriplegia – which she has dealt with for over 51 years – had put an undue amount of stress on her heart and lungs.

This, Tada shared, was not a bad diagnosis. The author and speaker wrote, “The good news is, doctors believe that with medication and with a more efficient way of breathing, my condition can be reversed.”

An optimistic Tada shared that while this time may have been challenging, she knew that God was using this experience in her life to show His love and mercy.

She said, “My assignment over the last 14 days of hospitalization was straight out of Acts 20:24, ‘But life is worth nothing unless I use it for doing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus – the work of telling others the Good News about God’s almighty kindness and love’ (TLB).”

Tada added, “When nurses and aides, respiratory therapists, and doctors asked how I was doing, I could say, ‘Jesus gives me His peace. It’s not as the world gives, so my heart’s not troubled and I’m not afraid.’”

The Joni and Friends founder praised God on Tuesday for healing her lungs as she was discharged from the hospital.

She wrote on Facebook, “I just signed my discharge papers and I am… Free! Praising God for healing of my lungs. Fresh air never felt so good! God bless you for praying me to this marvelous release after 14 days in the hospital! Onward and upward”

Updates on Tada’s condition will be shared on the Joni and Friends blog.
