Gospel for Asia Missionaries Arrested
A digest of religion news from around the world.
Updated Apr 09, 2002

Gospel for Asia has received word that five of their native missionaries in Nepal have been arrested: "Leaders have traveled 10 hours to reach the missionaries and speak to the authorities. We await word on their fate."
Terrorist ambushes and military operations continue to control Nepal, according to Gospel for Asia. The country is, in effect, fighting a civil war. Communist factions, called Maoists, have killed hundreds over the years and are now stepping up their activities. The government of Nepal has declared a state of emergency, and has restricted travel and civil liberties.
As a result, Gospel for Asia native missionaries find it difficult to conduct their ministry. They run the risk of being mistaken for terrorists as they travel from village to village, talking to people, and passing out Gospel literature. The ministry seeks prayer for those arrested.
