7.4-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Off Coast of El Salvador, One Fatality

A 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of El Salvador and Nicaragua Monday, resulting in some building damage and one death. 

Officials report that the earthquake cause minor damage to about one dozen homes, but the coastal region was left mostly unharmed. 

The man who died has not yet been identified; San Miguel mayor Wilfredo Salgado wrote on Twitter that the man was killed after an electricity post fell on him. 

There have been no reported injuries. 

The earthquake hit 42 miles southwest of Jiquilillo, Nicaragua and had a depth of 25 miles.
