California: Protesters Riot after Trump Rally, Damaging Police Cars

Mass chaos ensued after a rally for Donald Trump in Costa Mesa, California. ABC News reports hundreds of protesters rioted in the streets, blocking roads, jumping on police cars, and attempting to flip them. One Trump supporter was beaten.

According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, about 20 people were arrested during the rioting. There were no serious injuries reported. At least one police car was damaged.

Police in riot gear and police mounted on horseback were able to diffuse the situation by 11:00 p.m.

Rebecca Olguin told ABC News that she and many others attended the event to peacefully protest. However, some anti-Trump protesters caused mayhem.

"There were some who were peacefully protesting while others were being more open about sharing their opinions," Olguin said.

Trump’s California rally reached its 18,000-person capacity and had to turn people away before the event. Some individuals attempted to jump the fence to get in the venue, but were escorted out.

California’s primary election will be held June 7.
