Proposed Measure Would Make Abortion Murder in California

A proposed measure in California would criminalize abortion and treat it as first degree murder.

Proponents of the measure are working to get it on the November 2018 ballot so that citizens can vote on it.

According to Fox News’ Los Angeles affiliate station, the measure would make abortion a criminal offense, even in the cases of rape, incest, and when the life of the woman is in danger. The measure would also expand the definition of abortion to include some forms of birth control, medical research, and in vitro fertilization.

Daniel Ehinger, who is spearheading the initiative, has announced that supporters of the measure have been cleared to begin collecting signatures so that the measure can be put before voters in November.

"We received our circulating title to gather signatures and work to get Abolishing Abortion on the November 6th, 2018 ballot through a state ballot initiative that would amend our constitution. Please pray for our efforts," Ehinger wrote in a Facebook post.

Although Ehinger and other supporters of the measure have made headway in their cause, it is unlikely the initiative would maintain traction in liberal-leaning California, even if Ehinger is able to collect enough signatures to get it on the ballot.

The Secretary of State’s office in California has said that the measure would eliminate "a woman’s state constitutional privacy right to terminate a pregnancy, and to use certain birth control methods."
