Not bound by your circumstances - Sunday, March 4th 2018
10 Now you followed my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience, love, perseverance, 11 persecutions, and sufferings, such as happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium and at Lystra; what persecutions I endured, and out of them all the Lord rescued me! 12 Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted. 13 But evil men and impostors will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them,
Paul wrote First and Second Timothy to help guide Timothy in leading the early church. He uses this moment to encourage Timothy, reminding him that there will be struggles in the Christian life. Paul says, you watched me go through difficult seasons and the “Lord rescued me” through them. Then he says something we all would prefer not to hear, “all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.”
Friend, you will go through struggles. Some struggles will be light and short, others will be long and difficult. BUT GOD – He will rescue you out of them. Maybe you find yourself in a struggle today:
- Sometimes it is just a struggle to get along with others
- A struggle to get along with your kids, your spouse
- A struggle not to complain about things that are your preference
- A struggle financially, a struggle with being materialistic
- A struggle with a particular sin, drugs, addictions, pornography
- A struggle with depression, hopelessness, or loneliness.
The enemy would want you to think that you are the only one struggling. That you are the only one that goes through things like this, but you are not alone. Paul tells us in another section of Scripture that “no temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man”.
1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
What is the “way of escape?" Jesus, Jesus, Jesus! It is always Jesus. In the moment of your difficulty, turn to Jesus. In the moment of your struggle, turn to Jesus. He has all the answers, He is the answer, and He is there waiting for you to turn to Him in the midst of your struggle. He is so good, turn to Him today. As you draw near to Him, He will draw near to you!
Life Lesson: You are not bound by your circumstances but have freedom in Jesus!
I am turning to You right now. Help me in my time of struggle and distress. Thank You for always being there for me. Help me to recognize You more in my life daily. Thank You for freedom in You. In Jesus. name I pray. Amen!
Living to tell what He died to say,
