Forever Free - Saturday, October 10th 2015
1 Peter 2:16-17
"For you are free, yet you are God's slaves, so don't use your freedom as an excuse to do evil. Respect everyone, and love your Christian brothers and sisters. Fear God, and respect the king."
Freedom is a beautiful thing. In America, we enjoy freedoms that most countries only dream about. We have the freedom to come together in churches to worship Christ. We have the freedom to pursue our dream jobs or to engage in different ministry opportunities. We even have the freedom to read this devotional that would be banned in some countries because of its Bible verses. These freedoms are great and wonderful, but there is a greater freedom for each of us.
It is said that "freedom is never free" and this is true. We enjoy freedom in America because brave men and women fought to keep us free. The same is true with the freedom we have in Christ. We did not earn that freedom from sin or condemnation, but it was purchased for us through the precious blood of Jesus. When He cried out "It is finished," there was a great transaction. My sin was traded for His perfection. My bondage to the law of God was replaced with a freedom to know God through His amazing grace. It's this freedom that causes us to rejoice, whether we are living in a free country or living under persecution. In Jesus Christ, we can be free indeed.
Life Lesson: Jesus paid the highest price so that we could experience the greatest freedom.
Thank You for the freedom I find in a relationship with Jesus. Because of His sacrifice, I can live without fear of condemnation. I am now free to live my life for Him and even in those times I stumble and fall, I can rest upon the mighty grace of God. Help me to share this freedom with everyone I meet. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Living to tell what He died to say,
