Famine Relief

Acts 11:27-30

The rain was supposed to fall October-December 2017. It didn’t in Ethiopia, Somalia, the South Sedan, and parts of Kenya. The result is that East Africa is facing severe drought. Crops have failed, milk and meat production is low and Africans who had begun to discuss business ideas around their tables and to put these entrepreneurial ideas into action now have to forage because there is no food for their table. This threat of famine has hit the northwest of Kenya where we conducted the Truth Encounter Leadership Conferences hard.

What did the first century church do when a prophet warned the church in Antioch about a severe famine that would especially impact the church in Judea?

“Now in those days when Barnabas and Saul were teaching large numbers through the outreach of the church of Antioch, prophets arrived from Jerusalem. One of them, named Agabus, stood and revealed through the Spirit that a great famine was imminent throughout the Roman world. This famine did occur in the days of Claudius Caesar (AD 41-54). The Jesus followers decided, each according to how they had prospered, to contribute to serve the needs of the Judean brothers. This they did, sending their gift to the elders by Barnabas and Saul.” Acts 11:27-30

Bishop Olala, who set up the conference in Kakamega, emailed us about the severe food shortages in his area and the need to import maize from Uganda. He cares for over one hundred and twenty pre-school and early elementary age children in his Hope Bridge School and is trying to feed them and provide pure water.

LORD, thanks for the funds Truth Encounter has already been able to send to Zach to meet this food shortage in his school in Kakamega. May we all be like the Antiochian believers who generously provided for the church in Jerusalem.

If the Spirit stirs your heart about this need like he did the believers in Antioch, you can give through http://www.truthencounter.com/kenya-  in the section School (Building/Food).
