Dancing in the streets - Experiencing LIFE Today - August 26, 2019

Taken from Pete’s series Dance Lessons.

I freed a thousand slaves. I could have freed a thousand more if only they knew they were slaves. — Harriet Tubman

Freedom releases us from fear. I am free from rejection. Free from condemnation. Free from judgment. Free!

Dance with me, friends.

The Gospel frees me to live life through the Spirit. I dance as if no one is watching—free from performing—and yet I dance knowing others are watching. May my dance be an invitation to join.

Paul wrote a letter to the young church in Corinth regarding their freedom:

“I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but not everything is constructive. No one should seek their own good, but the good of others. (1 Corinthians 10:23-24)

He goes on to give permission to his readers to consume anything in the market without raising questions of conscience. Why? Because they were free. And their freedom, when intentionally lived out in practical, everyday situations, would invite others to dance.

Every day my life intertwines with others who don’t recognize they’re marching. So I dance. I dance freely, gracefully, and slowly—so that those who are watching can learn the steps.

May my love for You amplify the music of the dance so they can hear it from a distance and come running. I pray You will continue to teach me new steps so that I travel down new paths, extending the same invitation to new faces. Amen.
