Where did the devil come from?
Pastor Mark Jeske

The Bible presents a wealth of information about our world completely unavailable from any other source. It goes back in time before recorded history to describe the creation. It peers ahead into the future and gives us glimpses of what lies ahead and the glories of heaven. And it peeks behind the scenes of day-to-day life to see what is going on in the world of spirits and demons.

Some of the Old Testament prophecies of the coming Messiah use the life and experiences of King David as a jumping-off point. God used the same literary device to show us the sad transformation of Lucifer, the “light bearer” angel of glory, into our hellish foe Satan. The evil nature of the king of Babylon leads Isaiah prophetically to describe the evil nature of the devil: “How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations! You said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned. . . . I will make myself like the Most High’” (Isaiah 14:12-14).

Satan’s original sin was to grow weary of serving God and to desire to be a god himself. His mad revolt cost him his place in heaven and guaranteed an eternity in hell for himself. Now for a short while he and his demons roam the earth, seeking to seduce God’s children into joining his rebellion.

Now you know.
