Jesus Ain’t No Killjoy - Grace Moments Devotions - January 29

Jesus ain’t no killjoy
Jason Nelson

The Bible doesn’t report Jesus having fun. But he must have. He was true man. He was one of us. He had the full-on human experience. And he was true God. So he must have had some really good clean fun. He certainly enjoyed himself at that wedding before the wine ran out. He hung out with close friends at dinner parties. Fishing is always fun until a storm kicks up. I don’t think he told jokes, but he must have chuckled at the antics of children who were first in his heart.

Following him doesn’t mean we can’t have fun. People are put off from Christianity by caricatures of somber folks devoting themselves to dull lives, as if you can’t have a sense of humor and still take God seriously. The Bible does say, “The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;surely I have a delightful inheritance” (Psalm 16:6). The Bible’s parameters for living are a foundation for a full life and leave lots of room for good times. God drew the lines broadly so that we can be delighted in his grace. There are lots of fun things to do that you won’t regret the next day.

A clear conscience is the icing on the cake, or the celebration in the end zone, or the trophy mounted on the wall, or whatever you want to use as the measure of having fun. So go out and have some.
