Balance the here and now with the there and then
Pastor Mark Jeske
Do any of your relatives spend money “like there’s no tomorrow”? Everybody knows how tempting that is. It is so easy, so really easy, to borrow a lot of money, rack up big balances on the charge card, and live high in the here and now. Tomorrow seems a long way away. Perhaps a day of reckoning will never come.
What a disaster it would be if you got so absorbed in the struggle for survival that you forgot to look up. The life we are living on earth right now will soon be over. If you are young, you think that statement foolish—young folks think time passes soooo sloooowwwly. Ask senior citizens, and they will tell you that their lives seem to have flashed by in a blink.
Soon comes judgment day. If that day is today, will you be ready? “Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:1,2). Fix your eyes on Jesus while you live—he gives you the forgiveness, strength, and hope that you need right now.
Fix your eyes on Jesus even more as your life fades away. Through him you will get it back in a glorious eternity.
