Pastor Mark Jeske
When a pro football player comes under contract with an NFL team, that team and its coaches and owners expect the player not only to wear the uniform but to absorb the culture of the organization. The player needs to master the playbook, perform in games, but also conduct himself properly with the press, represent the team well, and be active in the community.
Through your faith in Christ, you have changed teams. Instead of the rags of Satan’s legions of the doomed you now wear the robes of holiness bought for you by Jesus Christ. Instead of wearing a toe tag for hell, you now are given Christ’s halo to wear on your head. “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light” (Ephesians 5:8). Your certainty of eternal life in heaven now changes how you act on earth.
God’s Word helps you more clearly identify the works of Satan. Stop loving those things. Shun them. God’s Word helps you see how precious and valuable other people are. Stop using people. Start helping them. God’s Word helps you see how he is the source of everything good in your life and in the world. Stop avoiding him. Worship him.
Wear your new uniform with pride. Love your new philosophy. Live your new philosophy.
You have the power to change your world!
The Bible tells the story of how God reformed a misshaped world through Jesus. How you see yourself fitting into that story shapes you. And as you reach out to share that story, it can’t help but shape the world around you!
