Get a guide. Be a guide.
Linda Buxa

My husband and I took a bike tour in Chicago. On it, I learned how the neighborhood was formed, how Chicago reversed the ways its river drained, and how architects put their stamp on the area.

Now, I had been to Chicago before. It’s a great city and a great place to explore, but not until I went with a guide did I learn some of the little details. Ultimately, I enjoyed the city more when someone explained it and pointed out what I would have missed on my own.

There was an Ethiopian man who was on a trip, and he needed a guide too—a Bible guide. When Philip, one of Jesus’ disciples met him, he asked, “‘Do you understand what you are reading?’ . . . ‘How can I,’ he said, ‘unless someone explains it to me?’”(Acts 8:30,31).

So Philip climbed up in the chariot and explained it to him.

Like the Ethiopian, we all could use a Bible guide. No matter how little or much we know our Bible, we can always discover new details that will make us understand it better, love God more deeply, and live it out more faithfully.

Find a pastor, teacher, mentor, or friend who tells you the truth about God (not just the stuff you want to hear). Learn from them. Read the Bible to make sure they are telling you the truth.

Then be a guide. Tell the people in your life the little details about how he works in your life. Don’t let them miss out!

You have the power to change your world!

The Bible tells the story of how God reformed a misshaped world through Jesus. How you see yourself fitting into that story shapes you. And as you reach out to share that story, it can’t help but shape the world around you!
