April 23, 2007 – Ignoring God – Matthew 13:13-14
Most of us don’t like being ignored. We feel frustrated when we’re disregarded, whether by sales clerks, authority figures, or loved ones. We may want their attention, but their focus is somewhere else.
Psalm 139:13 says God formed each of us in our mother’s womb and gave us life, breath, and everything we own. He deserves our attention. Sadly, a majority of the world ignores Him. They refuse to acknowledge their rebellion against God. And they reject His Son Jesus as Savior. God’s authority is ignored and replaced by their selfish intentions. Those who reject Christ’s offer of salvation remain under God’s judgment and face an eternity without Him.
Even Christians don’t always give God the attention He deserves. Like little children, believers can be easily sidetracked by worldly pleasures and distractions. Some of us ignore God by failing to make it a priority to learn what pleases Him. Others know what He wants but choose to pursue their own desires. At times, we forget we’re children of God and act like the world around us. Our preferences always fight for full attention. But believers have a clear choice to ignore God or ignore self.
The Lord expects us to give Him our full attention. When our minds focus on God, life revolves around discovering Him and becoming more like Him. How much do you focus on God and what pleases Him?
