May 7, 2007 – A Step of Faith – Hebrews 11:8

Welcome to the In Touch Devotional.

Have you ever heard the expression “a step of faith”? Whether or not you know the term, you probably understand the truth behind it. People in this type of situation might ask the questions, Should I take this new job? Should I move across the country? Should I marry this person? Our lives are made up of many steps of faith.

Sometimes, when God calls us into something, His wants us to step into the unknown. He sets a goal for us that’s beyond our knowledge, experience, and control. That’s why we call it a step of faith. If it were something we could know, then it wouldn’t be a matter of faith

But many people simply can’t take that first step. And they miss out on the entire journey when they don’t take that chance. After all, the first step is the most important. If you don’t make the initial decision to follow through, then you’ll never move beyond where you’re standing right now.

Abraham answered the call. He acted on God’s command to leave the country, packed up his family and belongings, and left the fertile land he called “home” his entire life (Genesis 12:1-5). Abraham didn’t know the destination, but he was convinced God had a better plan for his life. Hebrews 11:8 explains how getting there for Abraham required a step of faith.

Are you willing to follow the Lord’s direction, even when you don’t know where He’s leading you? Only God sees where that first step can take you. Is today the day for you to take your next great step of faith?
