The Priority Of Relationship
A popular television ad campaign compares its services with that of other companies and then asks us repeatedly, "What’s your priority?"
As Christians, we need to constantly ask ourselves, "What’s my priority?" If the priority above everything else in our lives isn’t our relationship with God, then we need to reevaluate our lives.
We should have no idols before God. (Exodus 20:4) While we may not worship idols of wood or stone, we sometimes worship ideals, people, relationships, or material objects rather than God.
It’s hard to have a vibrant, growing relationship with someone when you are committed to someone or something else.
The same holds true for us in our relationship with God. He’s a jealous God, and He doesn’t want to fight for time with you. If there’s anything in our lives that is taking precedence over our time with God, we must make some adjustments.
These "idols" prevent us from knowing God as intimately as He wants us to know Him.
Jesus gave us the new commandment that overrides every previous one: Love God with all our heart, soul, and mind. Getting to know God through loving Him—that should be our priority.
