Adding And Multiplying - July 24

Adding And Multiplying

I will multiply your descendants into countless millions (Hebrews 6:14).

Dear friends:

I mentioned this concept in a previous message, but it is so important it is worth repeating for emphasis.

Imagine for a moment that you are an extremely zealous witness for Christ.  You are sharing the message of God's great love and forgiveness wherever you go.  You are able to actually lead ten people a day to our Savior.

Using "spiritual addition," that would be 3,650 people per year!

That is an amazing number.  Yet, at that rate it would take you thousands of years to reach the world!

But thankfully, God has given to us a miraculous method, "spiritual multiplication," through which we can reach the world in our generation.

Spiritual multiplication is the deliberate discipling of new Christians so that they in turn will evangelize and disciple others.

Using this technique, instead of leading 3,650 people a year to Christ, you lead only ten people, then disciple them to witness to and disciple ten others.  Each of the new believers, now 100, can in turn do the same for ten more, which would then be 1,000, and on and on.  By this multiplication strategy, you could theoretically reach the entire world of more than 6 billion people in less than ten years!

Such a spiritual pyramid technique will always break down somewhere along the way and you may not personally see 6 billion people won to Christ by your efforts.  But what if thousands, or millions, of Christians used this technique?  The world would soon be won and the Great Commission fulfilled.

The spiritual multiplication concept has been used by Campus Crusade for Christ for many years and we have seen it work dramatically.  Some of our staff members have birthed many generations of believers, who in turn are committed to the Win, Build, Send strategy of spiritual multiplication.

In a visit to our staff in Thailand, I met a one man who was the spiritual father of 12 generations of believers.  He had led more than 1,500 people to Christ in the previous four years, and he introduced me to one of his disciples, who introduced me to one of his disciples, and so it went on down a line of 12 men and women.  The last disciple in the chain had been a Christian only six months and had already introduced 12 people to Christ.

These believers in Thailand know that it is not enough just to lead others to the Lord, and then leave them alone.  Rather, they win people and disciple them, training these new Christians to win and disciple and send others so they, in turn, will win and disciple and send still others.

Yours for fulfilling the Great Commission each year until our Lord returns,
Bill Bright
