Young Man from India - April 24

Young Man From India

I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No one can come to the Father except through me (John 14:6).

Dear friends:

A young student from India approached me after one of my lectures on campus.  He was very angry and impatient.  He said, "I resent the arrogance with which you Christians say that you have the only way to God.  I believe that Christianity is one way, but only one way.  Other religions are all ways to God."

This is a common thought among the secularists in the world and those caught up in false religions who do not know our great Creator God and Savior.  You see this theme frequently in the mainstream media whenever a Christian leader takes a public stand for Christ and what the Bible clearly teaches.   It is a main reason why Christians who believe and practice biblical standards are often hated and derided, and referred to as bigots and intolerant.

The student from India was unusually brilliant, working for double doctorates in both physics and chemistry.  And as we talked, he began to see that Christianity is uniquely different -- that it is not just another man-made religion or philosophy, but that it makes provision for man's greatest need -- the forgiveness of sin, which no man-made religion provides.  This is a unique distinction of Christianity: No other religion makes such a provision, nor does any other offer a path to eternal life for which the believer can be assured.  No other religious founder died for our sins; no other died and rose again; and no other was God incarnate, who shed His own blood for our sakes.  Whereas man-made religions often call their followers to be willing to die for their god, our Creator God and Savior died for us!

After some discussion, he admitted that he had never found God in his religion and did not know anyone who had.  Finally, we knelt together in prayer, and he prayed that Jesus would come into his life and forgive his sins.  This brilliant young man had finally found God, and peace, for which he had looked all his life.

More often than not, critics just do not understand what God has revealed to the world through His Word, the Bible, and once explained to them, they gladly believe.

Unless one's heart is helplessly cold and closed, and he has purposely set out to be a skeptic, there is no way a person can read the Gospel of John, for example, and not be convinced that Jesus is the Son of God, and embrace Him as Savior.  And we know that, "No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also" (1 John 2:23, NIV).

Yours for fulfilling the Great Commission each year until our Lord returns,
Bill Bright
