According to the 2011 Index of Economic Freedom, released by the Heritage Foundation, financial independence is on the rise around the world. This report discovered that countries gaining in economic freedom have done a much better job of fighting poverty over the last decade.
The categories ranked by this study include, openness to trade and investment, government size, business and labor regulation, property rights, corruption, and financial competition.
This list reveals that nations that provide opportunity, rather than oppression, result in less poverty.
Proverbs 22:16 teaches, "He who oppresses the poor to increase his wealth and he who gives gifts to the rich - both come to poverty.
One of the best things we can do internationally, or in our own workplace, to fight poverty is to provide opportunity.
