Conflicts and Culture

In the early years of my marriage to Kathy, her family interactions during the holidays shocked me at times. My family members are peacemakers with conflict avoided at all costs.

Kathy’s family on the other hand was verbal and sometimes loud when things didn’t go according to plan. The strife in those early years was hard for me to handle, because I typically avoid conflict, not embrace it like Kathy’s family.

Many workplaces have cultures that change quickly when someone is added that embraces, and sometimes even enjoys, conflict.

Proverbs 17:1 teaches, “Better a dry crust with peace and quiet than a house full of feasting, with strife.”

If your culture has become more stressful, it might be time for a conversation for everyone to better understand each other’s style.
