Troubling Transitions

Many organizations find themselves navigating the challenge of installing new leadership to follow the founder. Some of these situations become ugly when the founder begins to feel like someone’s snatching their “baby.”

Although the board may be doing what’s best, to the founder it often seems like they’re being invaded by traitors.

If you’re transitioning an organization from a founder to others there are steps that can help. Develop a plan early. Bathe it in prayer. The founder needs time to digest the transition. Involve them in training their successor. Finally, there needs to be open and honest communication between all parties.

Proverbs 16:3 teaches, “Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.”

During transitions, be sure to make good plans with God at the center.
