A Power Grab
By Rick Boxx
March 11, 2011

Early on, I worked in a department that hired Mary. Mary appeared overqualified. Her resume was impressive, but she had poor judgment and was overly ambitious.

She constantly undermined her boss. She even recommended that the department head fire her boss and place her in that role. She eventually was fired for her rebellious ways.

In Numbers 16, Korah, one of the Levites, made a power grab. He rebelled and told Moses, “You have gone too far! The whole community is holy, every one of them, and the LORD is with them. Why then do you set yourselves above the LORD’s assembly?”

Hours later, God swallowed Korah and his malcontents with an earthquake.

Serving superiors humbly and with excellence is a better path to the top than attempting a power grab.
