A friend introduced me to a veteran of the venture capital industry. While trying to learn more about his business and what made him successful, I heard an astute comment that gave me pause.
“We love metrics,” this new acquaintance said. “The best performing companies are quick to embrace the need for identifying and tracking their performance. The ones who balk at being held accountable to critical performance measurements are people with whom we don’t care to do business.”
Proverbs 27:23-24 teaches, “Be sure you know the condition of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds for riches do not endure forever, and a crown is not secure for all generations.”
God’s view on excellence isn’t all subjective. In business, or in ministry, we need tangible measurements of success.
