Jesus Christ – The Word
Today's reading: John 1:1-5
A number of years back when I worked for Back to the Bible, the ministry published a limited edition ESV Bible that contained some additional content authored by our Bible teacher, Dr. Woodrow Kroll. The conent included: importance and benefits of spending time in God's Word, suggestions on how to engage the Bible, supplemental and background information about each book, Bible reading plans, etc.
This Bible quickly became a favorite for me and is still the primary one I use. One of my favorite things about this Bible is the supplemental information Dr. Kroll wrote about each book to encourage people to read each particular book and also to help us see key points as we read. Below is a portion of what Dr. Kroll wrote to introduce the Book of John. I trust you will enjoy and benefit from this introduction as we start our journey through this important book.
"Why You Should Read [the Gospel of John]
While the Book of John is basically the same story as Matthew, Mark, and Luke, it's told from a totally different perspective. John just cuts right to the chase and tells you that Jesus is God--that you don't really know God until you know Jesus, and if you don't believe that Jesus is God, you've missed the entire point of Jesus coming to earth. The Gospel of John gives you a picture of Jesus that is about as full and complete as you get from any other book of the Bible. One of the most amazing things about John's presentation of Jesus is that you see that Jesus is not a one-sided person. He doesn't live in one dimension or one attribute. Jesus is the complete package."

What do the opening verses of John 1 show us about the origin of Jesus? The power of Jesus? About creation? What stood out to you most about Jesus from this passage and why? Tami
