Today's reading: 1 Timothy 6:1-10
1 Timothy 6 is one of a number of passages in the Bible that warn us about loving money or riches. It's a reminder that never gets old or out of date, because as long as we are living on this side of heaven, money/riches/wealth will be an ever present temptation that carries with it some serious consequences. Paul knows this, so after urging us to have a mindset of contentment, he issues these strong words of warning.
"But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs" (vs. 9-10).
On a scale of 1-10, how content would you say you are with the money and possessions you have? In a typical week, how much time do you spend thinking about money and possessions? What are some things that help you keep a proper perspective when it comes to making and having money? Tami
