Absolute Surrender

When David knew that Saul plotted evil against him, he said to Abiathar the priest, “Bring the ephod here.”  Then David said, “O Lord God of Israel, Your servant has certainly heard that Saul seeks to come to Keilah to destroy the city for my sake. Will the men of Keilah deliver me into his hand? Will Saul come down, as Your servant has heard? O Lord God of Israel, I pray, tell Your servant.” And the Lord said, “He will come down.” Then David said, “Will the men of Keilah deliver me and my men into the hand of Saul?” And the Lord said, “They will deliver you.”
1 Samuel 23:9-12

David, as a man of prayer, sought the Lord for guidance. During this difficult time of Saul’s persistent pursuit of him, he wanted to remain in God’s perfect will. David asked God direct questions: “Will Saul come down, as Your servant has heard?” Then David waited for the Lord to give him a direct answer. God said, “He will come down.” God’s answer was not very long; it was simple and to the point.

David had just been used of the Lord to deliver the city of Keilah from the hand of the Philistines. Perhaps the people in the city would keep him safe from Saul. David needed to know for sure. So he asked the Lord another direct question: “Will the men of Keilah deliver me into Saul’s hand?” David wanted God’s peace in his heart and mind. God is all-knowing––omnipotent––and He already knew what would happen. The Lord gave David another short answer,“They will deliver you.”

When we pray and ask God direct questions, He will give us direct answers. Like David, we will receive God’s peace in our hearts and minds. Once we hear from the Lord, it is important to move with His leading. God has our best interest at heart.  He knows our future; He has plans for good (Jeremiah 19:11), so we need to be in tune with His voice and surrender to His will for our lives.

The condition for obtaining God's full blessing is absolute surrender to Him.
