"In the morning it happened that David wrote a letter to Joab and sent it by the hand of Uriah. And he wrote in the letter, saying, “Set Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retreat from him, that he may be struck down and die.” - 2 Samuel 11:14-15
Now David was devising an evil plan to rid himself of Uriah permanently. He had cunningly tried to get him home to sleep with his wife, but failed miserably. The only option left was to have him killed. David was willing to commit murder by having Uriah placed in the heat of the battle. His evil plan would break another of God’s commandments: “You shall not murder” (Exodus 20:13).
Imagine, Uriah had carried his own death warrant. He had fully trusted David and never looked at the letter to Joab. Following his orders, Joab retreated from Uriah in battle, senselessly he died.
Is this David, God’s anointed King? He had become a completely different person. He had followed his fleshly desires and became an adulterer and a murderer. David was his own worst enemy. He had completely sunk down to another level in his sin.
Without yielding to the Holy Spirit, we will walk according to the flesh. Understand that we too can sink to new depths of sin and commit the unimaginable. Our actions can take us in a direction from one sin to another sin until we are utterly destroyed. It is important to take Galatians 5:16-25 seriously and walk in the Spirit and not in the flesh.
Beware of no man more than of yourself;
