Sad, Pathetic Men

“This thing that you have done is not good. As the Lord lives, you deserve to die, because you have not guarded your master, the Lord’s anointed. And now see where the king’s spear is, and the jug of water that was by his head.” Then Saul knew David’s voice, and said, “Is that your voice, my son David?” David said, “It is my voice, my lord, O king.”
1 Samuel 26:16-17

David continued to bring to Abner’s attention his failure to protect the king––the Lord’s anointed. His lack of action was worthy of death. While David spoke, Saul recognized the voice of David and called out to him. He used the same sorrowful voice on another previously occasion. Saul, once again, seemed as if he loved David, and he would do him no harm.

Yet even though Saul seemed sorrowful; he was not to be trusted. He would go right back to his old ways, and continue to persecute David. Why? Saul walked according to his carnal desires––his flesh––and not the Spirit. We are left with a picture of a sad, pathetic––man.

Listen, anyone who fails to remain in God’s perfect will is in a place where their spiritual defenses are down. This is when the enemy will try to come in and destroy your life. In reality, I have seen men who have the same weak areas as Saul. Through their constant disobedience to God; they have become weak, sad and pathetic men. If only they would have remained obedient to the Word of God, then God could have used their lives mightily.

Samson, through his disobedience to the Word of God became a sad, pathetic man. He allowed a harlot to bring him down like a worthless piece of bread (Proverbs 6:26). It was not until Samson called out to the Lord, that he was able to receive back his strength and be used by the Lord to defeat his enemies (Judges 16:28).

As a Christian man, if you have been made weak through yielding to your carnal desires, call to the Lord and receive back your strength!

He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength.
~Isaiah 40:29~
