Fellowship with Christ
God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. - >1 Corinthians 1:9
Paul spoke about the close fellowship the Corinthian believers were to have with Christ and among each other. The Greek word for fellowship is koinónia, it means “participation, and communion.”
The Apostle John explained to the believers in Christ:
That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life—the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us— that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ (1 John 1:1-3).
I love that we have fellowship with one another, and we have the same fellowship with the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. But there is another important truth given to us in 1 John 1:6-7:
If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
These verses become a good gauge to examine ourselves. In the light and truth of what is declared in 1John 1:6-7; we should be able to see whether we really do have fellowship with God. We do not want to be self-deceived. Discern for yourself, are you walking in darkness or in the light?
The power to live a new life depends upon daily communion with the living Lord.
